Funeral services for Joy Scott, age 77, of Oak Grove, Louisiana, will be at 2:00PM, Sunday, May 9, 2010 at First Baptist Church, Oak Grove, Louisiana with Rev. Carl Gulde and Rev. Mike Mote officiating. Interment will follow at Harris Cemetery in Franklin Parish in the Lone Pine Community near Crowville, Louisiana. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday and Saturday from 6:00PM - 9:00PM at Cox Funeral Home.
Joy was born October 23, 1932, the second child of the union of Bessie and Victor Caldwell of Crowville, Louisiana. She died May 6, 2010 after a lengthy illness with her family by her side.
Joy is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George Arther Scott, Sr.; her son, George Arthur Scott Jr. and grandson, Scotty Scott of Lake Providence, Louisiana; parents, Bessie and Victor Caldwell of Crowville, Louisiana; brother, Billy Caldwell and Bessie Caldwell of Winnsboro, Louisiana; brother and sister-in-law, Adrian and Myrt Scott of Crowville, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Jesse Scott of Crowville, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Chuck Gordy of Jackson, Mississippi.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Jenni Scott Robertson and husband David of Lake Providence, Louisiana; daughter, Ann Scott French and husband Gerry of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Amy Scott of Oak Grove, Louisiana; sister, Mary Opal Gordy of Jackson, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Edythe Russell and brother-in-law, Julian Russell of Winnsboro, Louisiana; sister-in-law, Eloise Scott of Crowville, Louisiana; grandchildren, Ben Robertson and wife Denise of Euless, Texas, Lori Robertson Mosteller and husband Sam of Columbia, Missouri, Lana Robertson Kelly and husband Neal of Oak Grove, Louisiana, Byron Robertson of Cornwall on Hudson, New York, Tim Carr of Lake Providence, Louisiana, Lisa French Claxton and husband Jeff of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Janet French Faulk and husband Airen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rachel Voisin of Oak Grove, Louisiana; 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, and a host of cherished friends.
Joy spent her life enjoying family and friends, being actively involved with her children and grandchildren, and sharing everything with her husband, George, until his death in 2004. Her 56 years with George included countless memorable trips, playing tennis together for years, playing any kind of cards, and cheering on their favorite teams in professional basketball and tennis. One of her favorite pleasures in her last years was listening to Oak Grove Tiger football on the raido. One of her last outings was attending the Lady Tigers basketball play-offs and cheering on the Tigers. She loved her church and church family of First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, participating as an active member to the end of her days.
Pallbearers will be Ronny Gordy, Brent Gordy, Keith Gordy, Kyle Russell, Scott Ashley, Butch Glasscock, and Elliott Sutherlin.
